1 cup butter or margarine
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 egg yolk
2 1/4 cup flour
Browned Butter Frosting
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 1/4 cup 10x sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
4 to 5 teaspoons cream
Combine margarine and brown sugar. Cream together well. Add egg yolk and flour. Mix well. Chill in refrigerator.
To make the frosting, slightly brown butter in sauce pan. Remove from heat and blend in sugar. Add vanilla and cream. Beat well.
Preheat oven to 350° F. Shape cookie dough into 1/2 inch balls (marble-Sized). Place on ungreased baking sheet and flatten to 1/8 inch thickness. Press with fork or cookie stamp. Bake 12 to 15 minutes. Let cookies cool thourghly.
Use the Browned Butter Frosting to fill the cookies, making a sandwich using two cookies.
These are a simple shortbread cookies. This recipe was passed down to my aunt from her mother-in-law.
